Illuminus started as an idea 5 years ago, as a collective of technology enthusiasts. I myself have used and developed software capable of intrusively monitoring computer systems, I have built and used electronic devices capable of tapping telephone calls, I have spent numerous hours researching technology and identifying ways to exploit it. I have written software systems that can covertly circumvent firewalls, capture passwords, and monitor data packets. I have previously been arrested for offences related to protesting for civil liberties. I spent time in police custody as a result. During my time in custody I was physically assaulted for refusing to supply a sample of DNA, on the basis of my principals and fears based on my understanding of what DNA is. I stated during the incident that my objections were based on the fact that DNA is the key to every aspect of our genetic individuality, and with the advent of the human genome project, it could be abused to obtain information that identified every aspect of our genetic makeup. I was pinned down by 3 police officers and had hairs ripped from my arm with pliers as a result of my resistance to a mouth swab. I willingly acknowledge that I am paranoid, I am paranoid because from my experiences I am able to draw the lines between the dots, I can see the ways our technology can be abused, and the ultimate power it grants to those who hold it.

I have adopted a closed and isolationist lifestyle, I lead a life devoted to reducing my information footprint, while at the same time studying and learning more about the processes and systems involved in monitoring me, I have studied radio, electronic and data technology in depth for the last 10 years. The result of this is that my life is not as full and rewarding as it could be, but it is my view that I have been forced into a point of restricting my own civil liberties as a direct result of the state intrusion into my own and every individuals private lives, it is my duty to myself and others to fully understand the technology that surrounds me.

The United Kingdom is the most monitored country in the world, with over 4.2 million CCTV cameras, and numerous methods of monitoring and capturing data on every single individual that makes up its population. Recently planned extensions to the national DNA database intend to include DNA fingerprints of every single UK citizen. Internet monitoring systems allow for every page of information we view, every search enquiry we make and every e-mail and chat message we send, to be captured and recorded. Do you feel comfortable with someone knowing everything that you do in your day to day life, including in the comfort of your own home? These facts and figures are alarming, but the truth about the true potential for abuse of these systems is significantly more worrying, and under documented.

Equally worrying is that there are organizations out there that infiltrate our state government and steal and utilize the information gathered supposedly to protect us to target individuals with whom they hold a grudge, these systems used by our state are not secure, and there have been previously documented instances where this data has been stolen and abused .

One such organization is the Church of Scientology who have previously gathered and manipulated information relating to individuals who question their motives and expose their activities, to destroy the individual's lives, in some cases driving them to suicide. The Church of Scientology is documented as encouraging its members to infiltrate government agencies for its own agenda.

I intend to build this site into a source of rational and coherent information to draw the links and to provide the public with the truth about the technologies that are presently in use against us, the British Public, how they work and what they reveal about us as individuals, regardless of how law abiding you are, it is my belief that every one of us has a duty to know, and to stand up and voice their objections.

I will be adding detailed information on these technologies to this site in the near future, so please check back.
